CREATING ON THE FLY
Before it I had never invested so much effort solving a project. 1 month and a half and a few models
mid-way to completion, I had to review all models, finish the props, do lightning bakes,
texturize and mount in unity.
MASSIVE DETAIL UNDERTAKING
One of the client's demands was to be able to preserve the major quantity of detail on having
brought the camera closer to the objects. With only 5 slots for textures, these were of the tasks
that ingenuity was demanded much more.
ANOTHER NICE VIEW
This one is one of the sights that I like the most, Tomorrowland in miniature with all his attractions...
this used to be a hit in the early 90's.
I LOVE TRAIN STATIONS
For me always it has represented a taboo, since in my country they
were not very common. Since I am in north america, it is of the things that attract
me more and is represented well in this american icon replica.

2 YEARS OF STEADY ART PRODUCTION IN A 1½ HOUR WALKTHROUGH
The mere story behind Echoes of Sorrow II of traveling through a dream machine to which you can
reveal the truth of what really transpired on one tragedy event is so engaging; how could you
turn down a job offer like this?
HIGH VISUAL STANDARDS
No matter how many the projects I have been engaged, this one is by far the most intense of all;
due to the great exigency that I had from my art director for achieving spectacular shots.
VISUAL NARRATIVES BY INTERACTING
One of the things that attracted me the most about being employed in this project
was the level of complexity, from a language p-o-v. Aesthetically attractive
objects + state condition narratives.
IT'S ALL ABOUT THE PIPELINE
Scenes like these must be ended in 1 day approximately, which was very difficult. Thanks to the organization,
the teamwork and advanced techniques it was possible to manage such heavy loads of work!
GRAPHISME EN USAGE
This one is one of these opportunities of remembering and putting in practice the knowledges in graphic design.
This UI really was one of the high points of this project, added distinction and identity.

VERY PROUD OF THE END RESULT
3 months of work under pressure, endless stills to delineate, to paint, to correct and to integrate to the animation,
but everything produced fruit. My first animation frame by frame, an American client, who remained
SKETCHING THE OLD WAY
This one image was done in the first days of production. There is no way of feeling freer
than sketching down in pencil and paper, since the masters of decades ago used to do it.
It was cool all the way.
A TIN-PLATE ARMY
These were only some of the proposals that were presented to the client. Finally the final
changed changed too much, unrecognizable to a fault. Now I don't know what to do with this army of tin-plate.
PLAYING HARD WITH EXPRESSIONS
Exploring some possibilities for the girl's expressions, though it was not possible
to do too much emphasis in them due to the time constraints I had, the experience
helped enough for future projects.

WHAT WE COULD ARCHIVE
Though the initial goal was to deliver a card game in augmented reality,
suddenly our investigation group dissolved; the result of all the work we did during a year
and a half was this short animation.
TAPPING INTO OUR OWN IMAGINARY
After having lived an Andean country for more than 20 years, many of these ideas
and images of landscapes caved in my mind were very usefuln, to be able to solve these environments.
SOME FUN WITH CHARACTERS AGAIN!
Year 2010. It became common between my investigation colleagues to be in charged
of our more prominent characters, this way I began to envisione a career path for me.
I put my best at that time.
This one was my first adventure with videomappings, the technical obstacles were immeasurable,
in addition with required assets for the monstrous resolution of 4k. Nevertheless, it was all worthy at the end.
The original concept was the creation of the world and life, and how the latter had to come from the water.
Our characters had to have specific qualities to live in a submarine environment.
NO SMALL VISIONS
I would say that I was pulled in concept art by working on this project.
And personally I loved that phase in the VFX process. You inherit a blank sheet of paper
only to convert it to narrative & emotional terms. I love that freedom!
MATTE PAINTINGS, THE FIRST I EVER DID
There was no production designer at the beginning so I had the chance to
make a big impact, as opposed to just being a cog in a wheel by doing these sample works.
Doing something creatively complex is really fulfilling.
FANTASY DESIGN, RIGHT UP MY ALLEY
This was a mix of photo retouching and digital painting, so I was able to sketch freely.
I wanted it to be comprised of biotic graphic shapes to quickly convey prehistoric habitats.
The shot needed to feel like a cool opening of a book.
I started by achieving the right proportions and natural posture of the character in ZBrush.
After that, comes the modeling, starting from some retopologized chunks of geo.
Organic forms in ZBrush & hard surfaces in Max.

I started out my journey in this industry by around the year 2008.
The triple platinum XBOX game Gears of War totally took over me.
I studied then the techniques from Kevin which I tried to use profusely in this project!

WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE ACTUALLY
A parody about the misery existence of students whose lives have been taken out by their tirant teachers, in the
mist of a quirky, macabre and dark world.
THE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT
Althought I was somewhat experienced by the time, this was actually my first grand project. Around 10 characters were produced
in a 3 weeks timespan from scratch. Modeling, texturing, rigging were among my duties.
INSPIRED BY TIM BURTON'S GOTH RARENESS
Almost all of his films revel in gothic imagery.
We took advantage of these traits to create our own characters, props and rooms in an exaggerated,
almost cartoonish way to emphasize “goth” features and language.

THE FINAL RESULT
We were chosen among the best 10 shortfilm applicants worldwide, not bad for our
first international competition. I still hold up with the remembrance of those days heartedly.
The real. Mauro Rivera is just another kid who loves making big dreams happen.
I'm extremely willful to win and respond well to challenges by physical presence, cleverness, reliability
and resourcefulness. That's basically what I'm all about.
Anything beyond that is probably a byproduct of my drive to create believable worlds and my emphatic nature with the arts!
